I hear my characters' voices
and watch the scenes play in my mind—when I write, I’m in their worlds.
One of my goals is to make the writing so real that when the character closes
her eyes, the reader’s world is dark for a moment.
WHAT TO KEEP came about because I wondered
what it would be like to find out about a family that I’d never known. I
also wanted to better understand how families deal with secrets that affect all
members. So I began. . .
I started writing when I was ten. The first story I wrote took place at a junior
high school, and it was very high drama. My mother told me it was good, so I immediately
threw it away. I read F. Scott Fitzgerald when I was eleven. I loved literature
and writing so much I decided to teach it, and I earned an English Education degree.
One day, I decided to write to become published. My husband encouraged me, and
without his support I would not have pursued publication so diligently. Another
passion is encouraging writers to pursue their dreams.
I hold a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies/Creative Writing, my husband is
my best critic, and I have a lovely daughter who also pays her own car insurance.
Life is good.
